The second seminar of 2025 on the study titled Energy Justice in Malawi: Women’s Lived Experiences of Insecure Energy Access in Low-Income Households in Blantyre’s Urban Periphery took place on 28th February, 2025. The seminar was led by Rebecca Priti Foster from the University of Cambridge, under the Cambridge Trust and was held in Center for Social Research's boardroom.
The research focuses on understanding the experiences and perceptions of women living with insecure energy access, using a participant-centered approach. By adopting a bottom-up methodology, the study aims to reveal the lived experiences of these women and explore the role of traditional authorities (TAs) at the community level. The findings will contribute to a broader understanding of how energy justice manifests from grassroots communities to Malawi’s national energy policy.
This feminist research framework challenges traditional power structures by focusing on marginalized genders, advocating for social justice, and promoting transformation. By amplifying the voices of the participants, the study ensures that their perspectives are not only heard but also contribute to meaningful policy discussions and reforms in Malawi’s energy sector.
