CSR staff attends Afrobarometer Summer School

In a significant step toward advancing knowledge in social sciences statistics, CSR's Sam Manthalu and Raphael Nedi recently attended the Afrobarometer Summer School hosted at the University of Cape Town (UCT) from January 12 to January 31, 2025. The prestigious program brought together participants from various African countries, including South Africa, Ghana, Tunisia, Ethiopia, and Nigeria. The diverse cohort fostered a rich learning environment, allowing for cross-cultural exchange and collaboration.

The summer school focused on equipping participants with advanced data analysis skills relevant to social sciences. Through an intensive and hands-on curriculum, we delved into statistical techniques and methodologies designed to analyze Afrobarometer data. The sessions were expertly facilitated by seasoned instructors who provided practical insights into navigating survey datasets and interpreting findings in meaningful ways.

Participants developed Afrobarometer dispatch drafts based on Afrobarometer datasets, using their newly acquired analytical skills to reflect on real-world research topics as part of this exercise. The drafting process was both challenging and rewarding, offering valuable lessons in research design and academic writing.

Overall, the Afrobarometer Summer School at UCT was a transformative experience that deepened overall understanding of data analysis in the context of social sciences.
