CSR Seminar - Collaborative Research and Climate-Driven Humanitarian Action


The Centre for Social Research (CSR) at the University of Malawi will host a high-level research seminar on 27 February 2026 from 10:00 AM to 12:00 PM at the CSR Boardroom. The seminar will bring together leading scholars from Malawi, the United States, and the Netherlands to explore innovative approaches to knowledge production and humanitarian response in the context of global change.

The event features three distinguished researchers:

  • Dr Elita Chandimba, Research Fellow at the Centre for Social Research, University of Malawi

  • Dr Pempho Chinkondeni, Assistant Professor in the College of Education and Human Development, University of North Dakota, USA

  • Dr Tanja Hendriks, Assistant Professor at the Institute of Security and Global Affairs (ISGA) and African Studies Centre Leiden (ASCL), Leiden University, Netherlands

Advancing Shared Knowledge Through Collaborative Ethnography

Dr Elita Chandimba and Dr Pempho Chinkondeni will present on:

“Qualitative Research through Collaborative- and Duo-Ethnography: Ubuntu as a Tool for Shared Knowledge-Making.”

Rethinking Humanitarian Interventions in a Changing Climate

Dr Tanja Hendriks will present:

“Taking a Risk on Disasters: Changing Humanitarian Interventions Amidst a Changing Climate.”
