CSR AT THE 10TH TRANFERS PROJECT WORKSHOP IN NAIROBI, KENYA

The Centre for Social Research of the University of Malawi has participated in the 10th project review meeting of the Social Cash Transfer Program. The review meeting took place in Nairobi, Kenya, and brought together a cross-section of experts from participating countries in Africa to discuss performance of the social cash transfer programme, its performance and sustainability over the years it has been implemented.

Associate Professor Maxton Tsoka, who represented CSR, presented findings of the social cash transfer programme in Malawi which among other things, revealed that exiting households seem slightly better off than continuing beneficiaries. This finding particularly means that continuing households still need a little more time to get better off before they can be weaned off form the beneficiaries list. However, the general concern of the participants was on the sustainability of the social cash transfer programme and how long it can be implemented to cover all deserving households at national level.
